Miramar
Park: maintained by the City of Torrance, as of August 2003,it is still
undergoing a facelift: newly seeded grass, new furnishings, a renovated
dolphin statue, the addition of new trees, and more. A great place to
bring the kids, the dogs, or to unwind and make new friends. |
The
dolphin statue's skin is peeling from being out in the sun too long! |
The
so-called Myers box was installed by SCE to handle the electrical
requirements of some of the new structures. Located in a rather too
obvious place, the plan is to relocate it to the rear of the park (seen in
the distance). |
Miramar Park: bare spots in
grass as a result of inadequate hydroseeding. This is due to be fixed, and
hopefully the unlovely fencing will be able to retire. New Japanese Black pines
have been planted. Low growing, they are perfect for the park and will not
grow to obstruct views. |

Landscaping is soon to be
completed. |
The
new stairs feature a pleasing encore of lines, curves and sense of
movement. |

The
old wheelchair-accessible ramp has been left in place as one of many ways
to access the beach. Some upgrading of the ramp is still scheduled. |

One of many new lifeguard stations built by LA County in the
past year. |

The snack bar features a nice little patio with great views toward
the beach. |
A
new Vehicle ramp leads from the parking lot to the
lifeguard/fire station. |
The
area adjacent to the vehicle ramp where native plant restoration
is set to begin at the end of August. Natives are best
established at the end of summer in anticipation of the winter
rains. |
The
same restoration area seen from above. Don't worry, the plastic and
sandbags will soon be a distant memory. |
The
cement pad at the bottom of the vehicle ramp is meant to accommodate
emergency vehicles, such as ambulances. Plenty of other places to
sunbathe! |

|
Lucky us! New pay stations have been installed
in the parking lot to make payment so much more convenient. Run by LA
County, the parking lot now enforces payment year-round. In
addition, the lot has been re-paved with slurry seal. |
